Music

At Sledmere and Wetwang Federation our intent is that all pupils are engaged and inspired to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians.

Our intent is that all children:

  • Achieve their potential.
  • Experience high quality teaching and learning at all times.
  • Play. perform, listen to, review, evaluate and enjoy music and to appreciate a variety of music styles.
  • Learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others.
  • Understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated.
  • We aim for every child to leave Sledmere and Wetwang Federation with a range of musical skills and knowledge and an understanding and love of music which they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Implementation

At Sledmere and Wetwang Federation we encourage children to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we aim to build up the confidence of all children.

 

We implement our Music curriculum through:

  • We explore a wide range of musical genres, supporting children to consider whether they like it or not. 
  • Visits, visitors and experiences focusing musical knowledge and skills.
  • High quality modelling and scaffolding of Music skills in order for all children to achieve excellence.
  • Nurture and relationships allow adults to support children to experiment and challenge themselves. 
  • Learning that is high quality, showing a range of Music and evidence the highest expectations.
  • Use of a range of high quality resources.
  • Providing children with opportunities to perform in front of their peers and wider audiences.
  • All children to have an opportunity to learn an instrument with a specialist music teacher.
  • Pupils’ understanding of music will be developed through activities which bring together the requirements of performing, composing, listening and appraising.
  • Children are taught to make music together with tuned and untuned instruments and to compose original pieces.
  • They are also taught to sing and play in time controlling the sound and tempo.
  • They are taught different ways to represent sounds graphically and symbolically.

The impact of our Music approach is our children are engaged and inspired by Music. They are confident, creative and feel pride in their Musical accomplishments.
