Computing
At Sledmere and Wetwang Federation our intent is to equip our pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.
Our intent is that all children:
- Achieve their potential.
- Experience high quality teaching and learning at all times.
- Can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation.
- Can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.
- Can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems.
- Are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
- Use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly; recognise acceptable/unacceptable behaviour and identify a range of ways to report concerns about content and contact.
We implement our Computing curriculum through:
- In EYFS, we implement technology through a wide range of technological toys. We use iPads to support reading, phonics and maths as well as teach children about the importance of keeping themselves safe when using electronic equipment and the internet.
- Our curriculum sequence of Hook - Develop - Innovate - Express.
- High quality modelling and scaffold Computing skills in order for all children to achieve excellence.
- Nurture and relationships allow adults to support children to experiment and challenge themselves.
- Learning journeys that reflect what is being taught.
- Learning that is high quality, showing a range of Computing and evidence the highest expectations.
- Ensuring staff and volunteers are trained and confident in online safety, identifying and responding to concerns
- Teaching children and young people the skills to stay safe online using advised guidance and through nurture and relationships, mutual respect and trust
- Sharing helpful advice and resources with parents and carers.
- We will make links between Computing and Mathematics, Science and Design and Technology.
- E-safety is woven through everything we teach.
- Developing robust e-safety policies and procedures
- Regularly reviewing and improving our e-safety provision.
- Logging and monitoring any concerns.
The impact of our Computing approach is our children are digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology. They are prepared for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

What do our children think?
“In Computing I love everything – particularly coding.”
"I really like coding and problem solving."
"I like being able to explore how computers work."
"It helps you learn new skills."
