Our topic this half-term: What toys did our grandparents play with?

Welcome to Class 1! We are so excited to begin a new school year together and are looking forward to a fun-filled first half-term of learning, exploring and making memories.

Our topic this half-term is ‘What toys did our grandparents play with?’ We will be finding out what toys children played with in the past and exploring how toys have changed over time. We will look closely at old and new toys, thinking about what they are made from, how they work and what they were used for.

The children will have lots of opportunities to explore, investigate, compare and talk about toys, as well as sharing their own experiences of the toys they enjoy playing with. We will also be developing our vocabulary and practising our drawing, writing and creative skills as we become historians, designers and storytellers!

We can't wait to see where our learning takes us! 

KIRFs

FS2 – To know the number bonds within 5.

Year 1 – To know the number bonds to 10.

Little and often is the best way to practise these facts, so please encourage your child to practise at home when you can. This could be while walking to school, on a car journey or through fun games and practical activities.

Reading

Please can children read three to four times a week and have their reading record signed by an adult.

Children will need to bring their reading record and reading book into school every day.

PE

Friday afternoon - Children should bring their PE kit to school with them.
