The first steps in our Federation...

How we make your child's experiences memorable and fun

The EYFS is about how children learn, as well as what they learn. Children need opportunities to develop their own play and independent exploration. This is enjoyable and motivating. Our adults ‘scaffold’ their learning by giving them just enough help to achieve something they cannot do independently. Helping children to think, discuss and plan ahead is important, like gathering the materials they need to make a den before they start building. These are ways we help our children to develop the characteristics of effective learning.

Key features of our effective practice:

1. The best for every child.

2. High-quality care.

3. The curriculum: what we want children to learn.

4. Pedagogy: helping children to learn.

5. Assessment: checking what children have learnt.

6. Self-regulation and executive function.

7. Partnership with parents.

The characteristics of effective teaching and learning.

Playing and exploring – children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’

Active learning – children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements

Creating and thinking critically - children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things

Our Intent

Our intent for EYFS at Wetwang Primary School is to inspire, engage and enthuse our pupils to be active learners every day.

  1. To provide a high quality pre-school experience, where children are at the heart of everything that happens.
  2. To create a safe, appealing and inspiring pre-school environment, where children thrive and learn.
  3. To build secure and trusting relationships with children and their families, valuing parents as their children’s first and most important educators.
  4. To celebrate diversity, appreciating and respecting the things that make each child unique.
  5. To continuously strive to improve the pre-school and Class 1 into the best they can be.
