Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) Development
The aims of our Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Policy are:
- To encourage pupils to develop their own beliefs and values about life and religion
- To promote positive and effective links with the local community in particular with St Marys Church, Sledmere & St Nicholas Church, Wetwang and the York Diocese
- To develop appropriate personal and social behaviour in response to other cultures and environments
- To develop an awareness of oneself in terms of thoughts, feelings, emotions responsibilities and experiences and the development of self-respect
- To prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life
- To promote respect and consideration for differences in gender, race and religion
- To recognise and value the worth of individuals, developing a sense of community and the ability to build relationships with others
- To promote curiosity in order to make sense of the world
- To encourage a sense of awe and wonder as the pupils become more aware of deeper meanings in the natural and their experience of it
- To develop the individual strengths of all pupils and to help and provide support in areas for development
